Matelot 2 ( Kevin Druez) by David Hockney

Painted on an iPad March 5/6th 2009
In Bridlington.

A few days earlier, he sat for the slightly smaller work, Matelot 1.

Kevin Druez is the cousin of Mr Hockney’s lead assistant Jean Pierre Goncalves de Lima ( J. P.)

Kevin Druez, was serving in the French Navy at the time of sitting and was visiting his cousin J. P. in Bridlington, whilst on leave.

The uniform is of the French navy at the time .

This work was limited to 30 lithograph prints.

Numbered 26/30 and signed by the artist in pencil. It is a huge commanding work, museum framed in natural dark wood 159cm by 110cm.

Mr Hockney painted Kevin Druez again in oils for the 82 portraits and a still life series which was shown around the world and at the Royal Academy, London 2016
